Door Security Pro XL 72"
Installation Instructions
It is VERY IMPORTANT that you read, and follow these instructions or you will likely have problems installing the Door Security Pro properly. You should read them completely at least once before you begin installing the product, and again while installing the product.
Door Security Pro XL Installation Instructions
Basic tools needed:
Before you begin installing the Door Security Pro XL, remove ONE of the center screws from each of the hinges attached to the door frame and replace them with one of the 3” screws that we provide. Drill the screws in SLOWLY and do not over-tighten them or you may pull the door frame out of square.
* You do not have to pre-drill the holes on wooden door frames, but on metal door frames you must.
Installing the Door Security Pro XL:
-
Configure the two plates so that one of the 2” holes on each plate will align correctly with the door latch strike plate and one of the 2” holes on the other plate aligns correctly with the deadbolt strike plate. Refer to the examples below:
Note: If you are unable to configure the plates as to match up properly with the door handle latch and deadbolt strike plates, you will need to drill a new hole in the top plate of the Door Security Pro using a 1” drill bit or a 1” bi-metal hole saw to accommodate the deadbolt stem.
-
Place the lower plate on the door jamb aligning the 2” hole on the top of the plate with the door latch strike plate that is on the door jamb. What's most important is to make sure and align the vertical edge of the 2” hole on our plate with the vertical edge of the strike plate on the door jamb that is closest towards the inside of the house.
Because those instructions may be difficult to understand for some people doing this for the first time, here's an another explanation that should help you understand it more clearly:
In the photo above on the left, look at the 2” hole in the lower plate. Notice that the right vertical edge of the hole is slightly cutting off the right vertical edge of the black circle inside the 2” hole. Although the picture was taken at a slight angle, it shows how we moved the plate slightly to the left as to align it with the edge of the strike plate already on the door frame. If we moved it too far to the left, the door latch would not catch. If we moved it too far the the right, the latch would not catch on our plate. So the bottom line is, you want those two edges on each of the two plates to align with each other so the door closes and latches properly.
-
Install one screw in the top hole of the lower plate and STOP.
-
Take the upper plate and do the same process as described above for the lower plate, except install one screw in the bottom hole of the upper plate.
-
Close the door and check that the door latch and the deadbolt work properly. If they don't, you will have to readjust the position of the plates until they do.
-
Open the door and install the remaining screws into the Door Security Pro starting from the center screws and working your way out in each direction until all screws are installed.
-
Close the door, check the operation and clearances. If the door rubs or is tight against the Door Security Pro, slightly tighten all the screws in the Door Security Pro. If the door is still tight, slightly tighten the 3” screws you installed in the hinges. If the door is still too tight, you may have to recess the Door Security Pro into the door frame. Any handyman or carpenter can easily do this for you if you are unable to.
Note: If you have a home security alarm with door sensors in the door frame, you will need to drill holes in the Door Security Pro using a 1” drill bit or a 1” bi-metal hole saw in such a way that the sensors can “see” the sensors on the door. You must make sure that our plate is not making ANY contact with the sensors or they will be grounded out and won't work.
Thank you for installing the Door Security Pro XL. It was a wise decision towards greater home security.
